Since 1967, AWP has supported writers and writing programs around the world. We now provide services to over 21,000 writers, 350 member colleges and universities, and 60 writers' conferences and centers.

AWP offers the following categories of membership. Click on the following links for more information, and choose the type of membership best for you.

Individual Membership
for the independent writer, or for the writer who may be affiliated with an academic institution or a literary organization that does not belong to AWP

Institutional Membership
for a college or university with a degree-conferring program in the art of writing and literature

Writers' Conference or Center Membership
for literary conferences, festivals, and centers that provide educational opportunities in contemporary literature and the art of writing

Affiliate Member
for a school that offers classes in creative writing but no full-fledged, degree-conferring program, and for a literary magazine, press, or any other literary organization that wishes to receive AWP publications and services
