The AWP Benefit Reading Series
Everyone who coordinates
readings of poetry, fiction, and Nonfiction should
take advantage of The Association of Writers & Writing
Programs' Benefit Reading Series. AWP maintains a
list of poets and writers who have each agreed to donate the
honorarium from one reading to AWP, and to set that honorarium
at a low $1000, plus expenses. The writers
listed have agreed to these terms because they want to help
AWP, the only national nonprofit organization cultivating
both the appreciation of contemporary literature and the growth
and quality of education in creative writing.
The AWP
Benefit Reading Series makes available a large and diverse
group of writers at a minimal charge. AWP makes all the calls
and arranges the contracts for the readings; we can also arrange
for a writer to, in the same visit, participate in workshops
or other activities (for which the writer is paid a separate
fee). The Reading Series terms have not changed since the
Series began: a sponsor pays all travel, meals, and accommodations, and pays the Benefit Reader a $1000 honorarium, which the writer has agreed to donate to AWP.
Questions about the Series should be directed to Christian Teresi, Associate Director of Membership Services at <christian_t@awpwriter.org> by e-mail, by fax at (703) 993-4302, or call (703) 993-4304 during regular business hours.

The Benefit Readers- Ordered by literary genre
Below is list of the writers who have agreed
to participate in the Benefit Reading Series. Readers are
identified by their willingness to read their poetry, fiction,
or nonfiction, or to give a lecture on the craft of writing in their genre. Readers are organized alphabetically by last name, by location (state or country), and by genre. Click the author's name for a biography, if available.
