Venue Notices

The Fiction Writing Department at Columbia College Chicago is providing venue space for individuals or groups from AWP Thursday through Saturday (Feb.12-14). Half-hour time slots are available for reservation with a limit of 3 concurrent slots.

To make a reservation, call the Fiction Writing Department office at 312.369.7611 or email fictionwriting@colum.edu. Please give a first and second option, and leave a phone number where you can be reached. One of our student workers, Aaron or Lex, will get back to you to confirm or work out an alternative time. Space will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. If you call after hours, leave a message on Secretary Nicole Chakalis's voicemail, and she will pass your request on to Aaron or Lex.

The location: The Court in the Columbia College Chicago Plymouth Court Residence Hall, 731 South Plymouth Court, at the corner of Polk & Plymouth, 3 blocks west of the Hilton Chicago. The entrance is on Plymouth Court, and the venue is on the first floor to the right at the top of the stairs. If you want to order food or refreshments for your readers & guest, ask Aaron or Lex for suggestions. You will need to make arrangements for payment ahead of time if you want refreshments. The space and a microphone will be available free of charge.

This month, RUI hosts editors from literary and poetry journals in attendance at the AWP Conference. This kick-off event features readings of original works by: Michael Czyzniejewski, co-editor in chief of Mid-America Review (MAR), Department of English and the College of Arts & Sciences at Bowling Green State University; Dave Clapper, editor of Smokelong Quarterly (flash fiction). Also reading are local writer Amy Guth (founder of Pilcrow Festival and managing editor of So New Media) and RUI's newest regular member, Gabe Levinson(creator of SomethingtoRead.net, which includes StoRies Magazine; and the Book Bike) RUI features readings of short original works and trivia games with book prizes. The event takes place in three rounds, with breaks in between each round so that audience members can engage in discussion with the featured readers to discuss their publications and events.
