The Association of Writers & Writing Programs
2008 AWP Annual Conference

January 30 - February 2, 2008

Conference Survey Results

AWP’s 2008 Conference & Bookfair brought together nearly 8,000 students, writers, educators, publishers, agents, and editors together, making AWP’s Conference one of the largest annual literary gatherings in North America.

More than 75 university writing programs, literary organizations, and small presses partnered with AWP to sponsor our Annual Conference in new York. With nearly 350 literary events––including lectures and readings by John Irving, Joyce Carol Oates, Edwidge Danticat, Robert Pinsky, Frank McCourt, Yusef Komunyakaa, and dozens of other prominent figures in modern literature––AWP’s New York Conference proved an integral component of our national literary conversation.

More than 400 literary presses and magazines participated in our annual Bookfair.

The satisfaction rate among survey respondents was 97%, with 81% responding that the conference was “Very Good” to “Excellent.” Attendees ranked the Bookfair and the network of peers as their favorite components of the conference.

Thanks to everyone who made New York such a big success! To find out how you can participate in our 2009 conference in Chicago, visit our 2009 Conference webpage.
